Learn To Lead Class

Are you a veteran climber looking to add more excitement to your climbing visits? The Learn to Lead course will teach you the skills required to climb on lead. The main focus of the class is on basic indoor lead climbing and belaying skills with some discussion on more advanced practices. Students should be prepared to climb and belay during class; climbing shoes, harness and ATC style belay device are required. Rope will be provided. ***Please Note*** Completion of this course will not qualify you to safely and successfully climb lead routes outdoors. 

Course will include:

  • Belaying: how to belay a lead climber

  • Leading: how to clip efficiently while avoiding back clipping and Z-clipping.

  • Falling and catching a fall: how to take a fall and how to provide a soft catch

Class Details                

Dates offered: Every first and third Sunday of the month from 9:00AM to 12:00PM

Prerequisites: Climbing 5.9 and being able to or have already passed a TR test

Prices (per climber): $75 ($50 for members**)

This March: This upcoming March, Metrorock Vermont is hosting free Learn to Lead class every Sunday of the month for members! Each class will have a follow up session the next Sunday to practice your skills with an instructor before you take your lead test. Classes are from 9am to 12pm, and the follow up is from 10am to 12pm. To sign up for one of the classes during March, email luke@metrorock.com.

If any participant does not have he above prerequisites they may be restricted to watching the class and NO REFUNDS will be given in this situation.

Refund policy: If you need to cancel an event, we offer a full refund if the cancellation occurs 21 days or more before the event. If you are altering your booking within that period, we are happy to offer a credit for use at MetroRock, minus the deposit. We will not offer a refund for no-shows or cancellations within 48 hours before the event.
